Deadly combination of Andy Roddick and James Blake has given United States a 2-0 cushion over Spain in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
Andy Roddick is getting better with the passage of time and if he continues in the same way, watch out Federer and Nadal. Playing after injury layoff, Roddick beat Fernando Verdasco 7-6 (5), 6-1, 6-4 on the quick, indoor hard court. Though, first set was quite tough for Roddick but once he managed to win that set, there was no stopping Roddick in second and third sets.
Earlier, James Blake playing with utmost ease beat formidable Tommy Robredo in straight set 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. It was quite a shock result for Spain because they were banking on Robredo to see them through.
United States can secure a semifinal spot in the second day of the tie if top ranked double pairing of Bob and Mike Bryan are able to beat Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez of Spain.
